Another post I found at the bottom of that bag I mentioned yesterday. This one comes from my trip to India last January. This particular building was located on what google maps calls “Joggers Park Road”. Adjacent to this road, is a jogging/walking track (or a Joggers Park perhaps?). Which is a very nicely built and maintained walking path, which is separated from traffic by barriers and fences keep any stray livestock out. The track also abuts the large Navsari Agricultural University Farm, which is a huge tract of land in the middle of this growing metropolis of Surat.
I really was surprised to see such a walking path. People from the area flock there in the mornings and evenings to walk back and forth. Some walk slow, some walk at a brisk pace, and some even run. It’s really a smart idea, because walking along the roads can be dangerous at best with cars, motor cycles. scooters and rickshaws careering around everywhere. Also, it’s true when it’s said in the media that India has a growing middle class, and that middle class, which will occupy apartments like the ones in the picture, are leading increasingly sedentary and indulgent lifestyles (like we do in North America) with the proliferation of satellite television, fast food and white collar jobs, so (again, like we do) they need to exercise to stay healthy.
The following picture, posted back in March 2009, comes from the same stretch of roadway/walking path (note, man in center of picture is walking on a strangely deserted roadway)
